President Muhammadu Buhari has promoted Faruk Yahaya, chief of army staff, to the rank of lieutenant-general.
The decoration took place at the state house in Abuja.
This is the second time Buhari is decorating a chief of army staff in 2021.
In March, the president decorated the late army chief, Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a plane crash in Kaduna in May.
Among those present at the ceremony were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; Salamatu Yahaya, wife of the army chief; Ali Ndume, chairman senate committee on defence, and members of the federal executive council (FEC).
