FG names new chancellors, governing councils for federal varsities

The Federal Government has appointed chancellors and Governing Councils of some federal universities in the country. 

 Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who announced the new appointments  in Abuja on Thursday, said they are expected to enhance education delivery at the tertiary level to ensure more developments in the country.

“The inauguration of Councils is intended to strengthen these Institutions for effective service delivery for national development and global competitiveness,” he said.

On the new chancellors, Adamu said that some of the  appointments were intended to a replace deceased ones, adding 

that they would be presented to affected universities communities at an investiture ceremony or during their next convocation ceremony. 

The new chancellors, who are all royal fathers, and their assigned institutions are as follows; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi – Oba Rufus Aladesanmi III,  Ewi of Ado-Ekiti; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, – Obi Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha; and Alex Ekwueme University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State – Oba Aremu Gbadebo, Alake of Egbaland.

Others are;  Bayero University, Kano – Oba Ewuare 11, Oba Of Benin; Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State – King W S Joshua Igbugburu, Ibenanawei Of Bomo Kingdom; Federal University Gashua, Yobe – Professor Joseph Chike Edozien, Asagba Of Asaba;  And Federal University, Gusau Zamfara – Hrh Engr. Arc. Ezeogo Ewa Elechi. Isu-Oha I Of Ohaisu Kingdom, among others.

The minister also named the new  chairmen of governing councils of federal universities which are to be inaugurated on Thursday, 15, July 2021 as University of Benin, Dr Sonny Kuku,  University of Nigeria Nsukka, Ikechi Emenike; Ahmadu Bello University Zaria; Adamu Fika; Federal University Of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Anthony Anwuka; Bayero University Kano, Udoma Udo Udoma, among others.
