The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha has made a case for indigenous construction firms to be encouraged in the country.
The SGF stated this at the commissioning and handing over of completed erosion and flood control works at the National Hospital, Abuja on Tuesday.
The project was executed by the Ecological Fund Office, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Mustapha noted that the contractors that executed the project, Messers Masarki Nigeria Limited exhibited high standard in their works.
He said that encouragement for indigenous firms would boost local content and capacity.
The SGF who represented the President at the occasion said the project was one of the eighteen ecological intervention projects approved for the third and fourth quarters, 2019 and contract was awarded by the EFO Tenders Board (EFOTB) on 24th June , 2020.
He said the project would reduce dangers to lives and properties associated with the gully erosion and persistent flooding that had been experienced in recent times in the hospital environment.
The SGF said the completion of the project underscores the Federal Government’s concerted effort and sincerity of purpose in tackling problems of its citizens and making life more meaningful for the people.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr Habiba Lawal said that the project was initiated through a request for an urgent intervention forwarded to the Ecological Fund Office by the former Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole.
She urged the hospital management to ensure its maintenance and sustainability.
The CMD of the hospital, Dr. Momoh commended the President for the intervention, saying the project has saved the Cancer treatment center from problems associated with erosion and flooding.
