ANAN inaugurates NPA chapter

From Anthony Nwachukwu, Lagos

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has charged its Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) chapter to advance the science and values of accountancy in the administration of Nigerian ports.

Chairman of the Mainland Branch of ANAN, Mr. Akinsola Soares, gave the charge in Lagos recently while inaugurating the NPA chapter – the first of its kind in the Nigerian transport sector, according to a statement by the General Manager, Corporate & Strategic Communications,
Olaseni Alakija.

At a brief ceremony, Soares stated that the visit offered his team an opportunity to interact with the NPA management and also engage its members on ways to deepen accounting education and practice in the agency’s operations.

He added that the association has many programmes of mutual benefits with tertiary institutions, such as quizzes, debates and public lectures, towards advancing the science of accounting. To that end, he sought the support of the NPA towards achieving these goals.

Responding on behalf of the NPA management, the General Manager Finance, Mr. Sylvanus Ezugwu, who represented the Ag. Managing Director, Mohammed Bello Koko, commended the association for approving and establishing the chapter.
He assured that management would support any programme towards enhancing high accounting standards and practices, stating that as a going concern, the professional inputs of accountants are key to the agency’s effective performance in the discharge of its mandate.

The chapter executive committee comprises the General Manager (Audit), Mr. Mohammed Kolo (chairman), Mr. Adebayo Ajayi (secretary), Miss Joy Nathan (treasurer), and Mrs. Elle Iwereibor (public relations officer). All were administered the oath of office by Soares.
