India Embassy in Abuja marks 75th year Independence anniversary

The Embassy of India in Abuja yesterday celebrated its country’s 75th Year independence anniversary.


The celebration witnessed a large numbers of India citizens residing in Abuja and Nigerian friends. 


Indian community used the opportunity to display their diverse culture ranging from dancing and different Indian songs.


In address of the President of India, Shri Ram Bath Kovind and read by the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Abey Takur said,” it is a matter of great joy for me to wish all Indians , living in India and abroad , a very happy independence Day. 


“This day has a spacial significance as it marks the beginning of the 75th year of India’s independence for which ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsay’ is being celebrated,” he said.


According to him, independence Day is a festival of freedom for us , adding ” this was made possible by generations of freedom fighters ; some known , many unknown. They made great sacrifices.”

He said,” our nation , like many others , suffered great injustice s and tyranny under foreign rule. What distinguishes India , however, is that the character of our nationalist movement led by Mahatma Gandhi was based on principle s of truth and non violence. “
