Project ‘Come Out and Vote’ Anambra, has raised the alarm over what it called anticipated apathy in the November 6 governoship election.
The alarm was contained in a communique of the group signed by Comrade Uzoh George Tiga made available to journalists.
The group comprising of former Igbo NANS leaders said it considered it an abberation, abdication of duty and disservice to Anambra and Igbo race if it stands aloof in the face of the impending voter apathy.
“The communique is a product of exhaustive deliberations borne of genuine intention to see the people of Anambra participate in the polls.
“It is important for us to proffer solution to the voter apathy in Igboland in general and Anambra State in particular as a result of rumors and fear of the unknown.” The forum said.
The forum expressed deep concern that rumors, fears and uncertainty has pervaded the Anambra political atmosphere as regards resolve to vote or not to vote.
“It is on the strength of the above that the forum began consultations with members and colleagues in and out of various campuses, agencies, Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Government Establishments. It is an exhaustive analysis of the situation, we fear that a boycott will not be in the best interest of Anambra State.” The communique added.
The forum declared emphatically that voter apathy in the November 6 governorship polls would produce an unpopular winner which according to them is dangerous to the peace and stability of Anambra State.
The former Igbo NANS leaders frowned at any situation that would necessitate State of Emergency or an alteration of the political calendar of Anambra State.
“We are focused on sensitizing and mobilizing the electorates toward a peaceful, free and non violent election. We shall further engage the candidates and stakeholders in a roundtable meeting for the candidates to appreciate the expectations of Anambra people in particular and Igbos in general.” The former Igbo NANS leaders insisted.
The forum however appealed passionately to eligible voters to ensure that that they perform their civic responsibility on November 6 guber polls to elect the governor of their choice.
