Operatives that invaded Justice Odili’s residence arrested – IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman, has disclosed that the security operatives who raided the residence of Supreme Court’s Justice Mary Odili, have been arrested.

He disclosed this at an interview during a two-day capacity building for security operatives in Lagos and Ogun states organised by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 2 held at Victoria Island, Lagos.

Recall that Justice Odili’s residence was last Friday night invaded by armed security operatives who it was later discovered obtained a search warrant through dubious means from a Chief Magistrate to carry out the invasion which is generally seen as a ploy to either abduct Justice Odili, maim her or plant incriminating material in her residence.

Giving updates on police investigations on the matter, Usman stated: “I decided not to speak quickly on this issue to ensure that when I speak, I am able to give Nigerians information on what transpired or what has been done.

“To the best of my knowledge, we have been able to arrest the perpetrators and we are investigating the circumstances surrounding the invasion or siege on the judge’s residence.”

The IGP did not want to speak more on the matter in order not to jeopardise investigations, which Nigerians doubt would get to any end.

Also, on the wee-hour Tuesday attack at University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) Staff Quarters in Giri, Abuja, Usman said the police and other security agencies were working to ensure the safe rescue of the six persons kidnapped.

“We have information that bandits attacked the University of Abuja and six persons were kidnapped.
“The police and other security agencies including the military are working to ensure the safe rescue of the victims,” the IGP said.

He also dismissed reports that the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari has been reinstated, assuring of adequate security in the forthcoming governorship elections in Anambra State.
