FCT minister explains delay work on NASS complex

By Ignatius Okocha

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Malam Muhammad  Bello has attributed the delay in renovation work of the National Assembly complex to the failure of the contractor.

He said the  low capacity of contractor billed to handle the work of the National Assembly complex this year, stalled the award of the contract.

Bello stated this on Tuesday in Abuja, when he appeared before the joint National Assembly committee on Federal Capital Territory Administration.

The minister said the contract was placed before the Federal Executive Council with extensive deliberation revealing that the proposed contractor can not carry out the renovation work hence the delayed witnessed over the project.

He however assured the joint committee that as soon as hitches encountered now are cleared the contract would be awarded before the end of the year to a good contractor that can deliver on the project.

Recall that the melodrome of the National Assembly more than two times this year hampered the sittings of the lawmakers as it was flooded with water during  on schedule rain, which also attracted backlash on both management of the National Assembly and FCT Administrations.
