By Daniel Tyokua

The Chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Hon Abdullahi Adamu Candido has listed Jiwa, Garki, Karu and Karshi as major chiefdoms due for upgrade to first class status.

He said since 1997 when the chiefs were elevated to second and third statuses, they have remained in that category till date.

Candido disclosed this on Monday, during a valedictory visit to the palace of Sarkin Jiwa in Abuja Municipal Area Council.

“Since 1997 when the chiefdoms were elevated to second and third statuses, they have remained so till date”

The chairman stated that other chiefdoms in other states that were elevated in the same year have already attained first class status.

According to him, the traditional institutions that are ancient chiefdoms and closer to government should be respected.

He said: “I think the problem of the upgrade of the chiefdoms have to do with the government and the people. The government does not look at the aborigines with attention and respect.

“The chiefdoms were elevated since 1997 and till date, they are still in that position. For God’s sake, how do you elevate me to a status and after about 25 years, am still in that position.”
Candido explained that the visit to the Jiwa palace was to seek support, assistance and to pray for the  success of the incoming AMAC administration.

He reiterated that traditional institutions and residents of AMAC should encourage and support the new government to enable it succeed, adding that AMAC, as an institution, is greater than every other person.
