NAPTIP, DSS operatives rescue Burundians from traffickers in Imo

The combined operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Department of State services (DSS), Imo state commands have rescued a middle aged Burundian woman and her three children from the den of traffickers.


The victims Mrs Siniremera Sandrine Bisimana and her three children ; Murwaneza Zertha Maecy, Akimana Ken Bethel and Umwiza Goodluck Collins, we’re set free through the sting operation carried out on their holding mud house located in Umunoha village in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo state.

Investigation gathered reviewed that the victims were rescued on a complaint from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees lodged at the headquarters of NAPTIP with further directive from the Director General of the agency Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi.

Information given stated that the victims were trafficked from Kenya to Lagos, and we’re subsequently moved to Umunoha, Imo State by yet to be identified human trafficker. However, the state Commander NAPTIP, Mr Earnest Ogbu stated that they (victims) may have been deceived by the traffickers into coming to Nigeria,


Speaking on the development, Director General NAPTIP, Dr Fatima Waziri-Azi, thanked all stakeholders and partners who provided information and assistance in ensuring a successful operation that led to the rescue of the victims.


The NAPTIP boss specifically appreciates the effort and collaboration of the Imo state commands, Department state services (DSS) for providing the needed operational support. She assured that those behind the ordeal of the victims shall be identified and prosecuted.
