The chairman Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido has identified the media as one of the key actors in projecting his administration’s success that brought about special legacies.
He also acknowledged the untiring efforts of the education department where the Information section being headed by Mrs Patience Olaloye, is under.
Candido said,” Sincerely, my little time in office with the support of the media I have recorded huge success, without the press there wouldn’t be any success story to tell, the coming into being of the AMAC press corps is clearly something that I must acknowledge, I am sincerely grateful to them all”
The chairman disclosed this during the AMAC Media Retreat 2022, tagged ‘AMAC Valedictory: Appraising our legacies, securing gains of the future’ held in Keffi, Nasarawa state.
He urged the media to sustain the good working relationship accorded his administration, even as he asked them to extend same to the next leadership that will come on board.
Candido admitted challenges associated with politics and political offices but, he said there was the need for people in position of authority to always ensure that they put in their best.
In a paper presented by former Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT council, AbdulJelil Adebayo said despite the 774 local government councils in the country according to the amended 1999 constitution, but Irrespective of the yardstick used for assessment, Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC stands shoulder high above all.
“To be candid and fair to all, there was no former chairman that did not play his role in the development of the council while in office, but the present council chairman, is leaving behind a landmark that those coming after him, might find difficult to fill the remaining vacuum.
“He is the first council chairman of AMAC to have established a community radio, the first to have a security outfit called AMAC Marshals, the first to establish a micro finance outfit and also the formation of environmental marshal. And that certainly wasn’t all as he has and is establishing more local but modern markets scattered in the 12 wards. The police/civil defence corps are not left out as Candido did uplift them by donating vehicle to them” He said.
