By Chuks Oyema-Aziken

Residents of Isa Bello Sali Housing Estate, Kurudu Abuja have commended the federal government for the completed road networks, Erosion and Flood Control Works in the estate.

The project executed by the Ecological Project Office, Office of the Secretary to the government of the Federation (OSGF) was awarded on 22nd December, 2021.

It was handed over to the contractor, Messers AH & Properties on the 5th January, 2022.
The Special guest of honour at the commissioning, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan said that the project was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, under the Ecological Intervention Projects for the first and second quarters of the year 2021.

She commended the contractors for not only completing the project but delivering before the stipulated completion period.   The HoS said said the President Buhari- led Administration, through the various government agencies has been taking proactive steps to boost infrastructure development and deliver other high impact projects for the country’s citizens.

“This is in recognition of the role such socio-economic interventions play in enhancing connectivity, safe mobility and opportunities for citizens.  It is therefore most pleasing to note that this project is well envisioned and positioned to tackle flood and erosion issues and also enhance the road infrastructure in the Isa Bello Sali Estate, Kurudu.

“The project also underscores the Administration’s sincerity of purpose and responsiveness in tackling the challenges of its citizens and making life more meaningful for us all. For instance, between the year 2015 to date, the Federal Government, under the World Bank- assisted Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Projects (NEWMAP), has made Erosion and Flood Control interventions in over 103 sites, sixty-seven of which have been completed while thirty-six are ongoing.

“In addition, available data provided by the Federal Ministry of Environment further identifies 337 other Erosion and Flood Control interventions cutting across the six geo-political zones of the country.

She disclosed that the President recently approved that the Ecological Project Office carries out erosion control and road improvement  works at a Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) Scheme, Solutionist’s Estate in Karshi, Abuja.

“These and many other life-saving interventions of government are a clear reaffirmation of the Administration’s promise to carry every part of the country along in the spread of project implementation, and in doing so, no part of the country will suffer any neglect owing to its geographical location or political consideration.

She urged the benefiting residents of the estate and other users to exercise ownership over the project and its ancillary components by ensuring their proper maintenance, so that the limited resources committed by Government are not wasted.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, EPO, Dr. Habiba Lawal implored the residents of the estate and it’s environs to jealousy guard the facility as the resources which the Federal Government had committed in it must not be allowed to waste.

The Chairman, Residents Association, Sunday Odufuwa noted that the bad nature of the roads and erosion had been a source of concern.
