Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) expresses its deepest grief, outrage, and unequivocal condemnation of the “senseless and brutal” killings of innocent citizens at Anguwan Rukuba in Jos, Plateau State on Sunday at about 7:30 p.m.
It however said the recurring pattern of attacks and serial killings on the Plateau was deeply troubling and calls for urgent, decisive, and sustained intervention.
The Chairman of the forum, Elder Sunday Oibe in a statement decried that the heinous act was carried out on Palm Sunday, a sacred day of reflection and peace for Christians, underscores its provocative and barbaric nature.
He described it is a direct assault not only on human life but also on the values of coexistence, tolerance, and religious harmony that have long defined the people of Jos and Plateau State at large.
“NOSCEF strongly condemns this dastardly act of violence against innocent and defenseless citizens. Such wanton bloodshed is unacceptable and must not be allowed to continue unchecked.
“The recurring pattern of attacks and serial killings on the Plateau is deeply troubling and calls for urgent, decisive, and sustained intervention,” the statement read.
He called on all relevant security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to fish out the perpetrators of this atrocious crime and bring them to justice.
He however noted that the continued failure to hold offenders accountable only emboldens criminal elements and perpetuates a cycle of violence that threatens the peace and stability of the region.
Furthermore, he urged the government at all levels, security institutions, community leaders, and all stakeholders to work collaboratively and proactively to put an end to these recurring acts of violence.
“All hands must indeed be on deck to identify, confront, and dismantle the networks of those who derive pleasure in the killing of innocent citizens.
‘NOSCEF also calls on residents of Plateau State to remain calm but vigilant, and to continue to uphold the principles of peace, unity, and lawful conduct even in the face of provocation.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may justice prevail.
The time to act is now. Enough is enough,” the statement concluded.
