APC Forum calls on ICAN to sanction Ex-AGF, Idris over N109bn fraud allegation

Stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under the aegis of APC Professionals, have called for sanction against the embattled former Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris over his alleged embezzlement of over N109b, belonging to the country

Idris is currently been tried by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on the allegations of embezzling over N109 billion, as the Professional Forum of the  All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) and other Accounting bodies to sanction the former Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Alhaji Ahmed Idris.

The APC Professional Forum stated this on Tuesday while fielding questions from journalists at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

The suspended Accountant General, who is currently facing prosecution on a 14-count money laundering charge, had already made a plea bargain.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Forum, Mallam Isah Yuguda said,  “l think, this is one of the reasons this Forum was set up that as a Professional there is a law governing your certification. This Forum which has Insitute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria as a member and off course so many others like institute of Architecture, Engineers, Bankers and what have you.

“We don’t think the institute will just be sleeping like that. It is one of the things we are standing up for and we are going to take up very seriously with the institute of Accountancy. For those accountant in government who are kleptomania, they piffer from where they have not kept and it is a very serious development and the need for the Professional bodies to act swiftly and professionally too has arisen.

“Like the Society of Engineers for instance has no reason why an Architect should design a building and an Engineer to do the construction and this building collapses and nobody is sanctioned as a professional who had put his stamps on either the drawings or  the building. That is why we have decided that yes we must proffessionalise data. Off course in many cases you see political parties that would win elections but they don’t have Professionals within their midst. There are certain agencies and Ministries of government that the professionals must be there.

“So, the deficit of professionals have led us to where we are and off course also the failure on the part of the professional bodies to enforce discipline has led us to where we see accountant feeding from where they were not supposed to feed from or pilfering from where they were not supposed; changing figures and doctoring figures and stealing monies from tax payers treasury.”
