ALF condemns killings of Tiv people by suspected Fulani herdsmen

By Chiangi Avese, Makurdi

The Socio-Cultural Association of Tiv Lawyers worldwide, Ayatutu Lawyers Forum (ALF) has strongly condemned the resurgent killings of poor and innocent farmers, women and children in Tivland, even as it called on the state Governor, H.E. Hyacinth Iormem Alia to ensure full enforcement of the Anti grazing Law still in force in Benue State.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Forum, Mr. T. T. Hyundu Esq made available to The AUTHORITY on Saturday in Makurdi, the group frowned at the way Tiv land is yet again faced with an existential threat.

According to Mr. Hyundu, “recent disturbing reports from Gwer East, Kwande and Ukum Local Governments all in Benue State show that local farmers, women and children have been attacked at various times unprovoked and these attacks rendered scores dead and many others injured”.

“These attacks by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have become one too many and Tiv nation can not afford to continue to lose their loved ones in such a despicable manner as though they are not part of Nigeria”.

He therefore called on the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to live up to the oath of office he took, by protecting the lives and property of the people, as well as all other security agencies to ensure that the lives and property of Tiv people in particular and indeed all other Nigerians are protected and preserved.

Mr. Hyundu further stated that failure to protect the lives of the citizenry, the people may be forced to use any means necessary to defend themselves and protect their lives and their land.

The forum sends her sincere sympathies and condolences to the families who lost their loved ones as a result of these barbaric and inhuman attacks.
