Young Nigerian, Steven Irekpita, threatened over late father’s properties

By Felix Khanoba

A major fear has gripped a young Nigerian, Steven Irekpita, following alleged repeated death threats on him over his late father’s properties.

The two properties located in Jimeta Emirate of Adamawa State, belonged to Steven’s father- a retired military officer, who passed away in 2017, having served in the Nigerian Army as Commanding Officer before his retirement.

But trouble started when the young man, the surviving son of the late army officer, made moves to develop one of the landed properties, prompting some individuals to issue death threats on him in order to stop him.

In a chat, Irekpita – from Edo State, who said he has been traumatised over the ugly development, posited that he is probably being targeted because of his origin.

“I found it difficult to explain what people who regard themselves as indigenes of the area are up to against me, when my father who acquired the plots legally in line with the laws of the land and who had been a resident of the town had stayed there all through his life until his demise, ” he said.

According to him, the affected lands are located at Jimeta by Jambutu round-about, Namantari axis of Adamawa State, even as he called on security agencies to prevent the threats from becoming reality.

According to Steven, who is in his late thirties, the threats to his life happened at the location of the landed Property in late February 2022 when he paid a visit to the town to commence development on the land whose Certificate of Occupancy is in his possession.

While saying he has been receiving a series of threats on the affected properties through text messages and phone calls, Steven said the death threats might not only be designed to scare him away but masterminds of such acts may also have other motives.
