With Support Of Sister-security Agencies, I Will Ensure Security In Kano, Peaceful Elections In 2023, Says CP Dauda

The newly posted Commissioner of Police in Kano, Mr. Mamman Dauda, on Monday, promised to work with sister-security agencies in Kano to keep ensuring security of lives and property of Kano residents.

He assured that police would play their statutory roles to contribute towards a hitch-free, peaceful and fair elections in 2023.

The police boss, however, urged politicians, their supporters and other major stakeholders to play by the rules of the game during the electioneering campaigns.

During his maiden press briefing, at the Officers’ Mess, Bompai headquarters, he said: “All thanks are to Almighty God for giving me the opportunity to interact with you as the Commissioner of Police of Kano State Police Command. Words are not enough to express profound appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR for finding me worthy of this deployment.

“I assumed duty on the 10th of November, 2022 as the 44th Commissioner of Police of Kano State, and of course, when the 2023 general election is fast approaching and the political atmosphere is heating up. On arrival, I obtained briefs from my predecessor and the Command’s Departmental Heads, after which the state was analytically studied and an action plan that is based on Community Policing was designed to ensure a more peaceful Kano state.

“In line with the mission, vision and directives of the Inspector-General of Police, I will engage the Command’s Departmental Heads, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders and other officers and men of the command to continue to work in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Police Act 2020, rule of law and respect for human rights in line with international best practices.

“We will continue to regularly engage our officers in seminars and workshops, training and re-training in the areas of administration, operation and investigation to meet the demand of the dynamic society.

“In our effort to effectively police Kano State, we have mapped out strategies that are based on giving full effect to the concept of citizen-led policing by deepening the implementation of Community Policing strategy, addressing ethical and professional issues that impact trust and partnership between the Police and the Public.

“To achieve this, we will partner with other security agencies in the State and other critical stakeholders including; Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, the judiciary, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Eminent Persons, the Media, Human Rights Groups, Transport Unions, Youth Organizations etc.

“The following anti-crime strategies will be the basis for our Action Plan;
Deepening the implementation of Community Policing at the grassroots
Use of Technology in Operations and Investigations Intelligence-led and Visibility Policing Strengthening the communication unit of the command for effective intelligence sharing and prevention of crimes.
Synergy with sister security agencies and community policing stakeholders
Sustaining Operation Restore Peace has yielded positive results
Public enlightenment and sensitization through Television, Radio and Social Media.

“As part of our preparations for the 2023 General Elections, the Command will continue to engage political parties’ leadership to ensure peaceful electioneering processes. Mobile phones and other communication and operational equipment provided by the Nigeria Police Force and support from our stakeholders will be distributed to the Area Commands, Divisional Police Offices and Tactical Units to ease Communication and intelligence sharing among our officers before, during and after the general elections as well as improve operational capabilities.

“The numbers of these Mobile Phones will be publicized to enable members of the public to report incidences, information, etc. to the Police easily.

“Finally, we appreciate the effort of the Kano State Government under the leadership of his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State DR Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR (Khadimul Islam) for their continuous support to the Police Command.

“We also thanked the good people of Kano State for their prayers, support, warm reception and cooperation. Kano state Police Command under my watch will continue to be committed to safeguarding the lives and properties of the good people of the state and ensure effective and efficient service delivery, and fair and just treatment to all and sundry.”

The AUTHORITY reports that CP Dauda was born on April 19, 1963, at Illela Lpcal Government Area, Sokoto State.

After completing mandatory Primary and Secondary School Education, he attended the prestigious Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Mathematics.

He also obtained a Master of Science (MSc) in Statistics, a Master of Science (MSc) in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a Postgraduate Diploma in Nigerian Strategic Studies at the University of Maiduguri, a Diploma in Human Resources Management and a Certificate in Monitoring and Evaluation.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (C/ASP) on 18th May 1992 and trained at the famous Police Academy Annex Kaduna. He has served in different State Commands, Zonal Commands and Formations.

He held several positions, some of which include: Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) in several Divisions in Kaduna, Nassarawa, Gombe and Anambra States Police Commands, Contingent Commander, Nigeria Formed Police Unit (FPU), Haiti, Chief Superintendent of Police Admin (CSP ‘A’) & Staff Officer Senior (SOS) at Police College Maiduguri, Officer in Charge of Mechanized Salary Section (MSS) at Gombe State Police Command.

Furthermore, he was Second in Charge (2I/C) Operations, Nassarawa State Police Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of IGP X-Squad Zamfara State Police Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of IGP X-Squad Katsina State Police Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Zamfara State Police Command.
ix. Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department, Zone 4, Zonal Command Makurdi.

Moreso, he was Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Zamfara State Police Command, Prior to his posting to Kano State Police Command, he was the Commissioner of Police, Director Central Planning and Training Unit (CPTU), Police Staff College Jos.

He also attended many professional and leadership Courses, Seminars and Workshops both within and outside the Country, some of which include: Strategic Leadership and Command Course, Intermediate Command Course, Train the Trainers Courses, Advance Detective Course; at Police Staff College Jos.

He is happily married and blessed with children.
