AMAC talks tough on multiple taxes

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has threatened to go after those sabotaging revenue generation in the council, causing multiple taxes.

Briefing Journalists, Thursday, the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the chairman, Yusuf Ahmadu said it was worrisome for the residents to pay the same tax to two separate bodies.

He said it was wrong for a government agency to be collecting mobile advert in AMAC without the knowledge of the officials assigned to be in -charge of tax collection.

Ahmadu warned that the current leadership of the council under Christopher Maikalangu would not accept anybody found thwarting AMAC privileges in collecting revenue.

“Base on the supreme court ruling, no body or an establishing Act has the power to transfer the authority or the Area council power to collect revenue to the third party.

“We therefore call on AMAC residents mobile advert customers not to pay any money to FCT Department of Outdoor Advertisement and Signage, else they will pay two times

“The council has constituted a committee that will be going round to check the activities of individuals sabotaging revenue generation.

He said the Area council has since begun clampdown on revenue defaulters and impostors.

According to him, the chairman was not taking issue issue likely as strategic stakeholders are behind him in boosting the revenue collection.
