Nine rescued as Abuja four-storey building collapses

No fewer than nine persons were reportedly rescued on Monday when an uncompleted four -storey building collapsed in Life-camp area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The incident occurred in the late hours of Monday, while workers were on the construction site in the swampy Dape area near the Berger Clinic.

Rescue team from Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), FCT Fire Service, Police and other security personnel were battling to rescue more victims.

The Director General FEMA, Dr Abass Idris, who confirmed the incident, said: “There is a building collapse in Depa area of Life-Camp, nine persons have so far been rescued but the rescue operations is in progress”

However, the Head of Operations of the FCT Fire Service, Amiola Adebayo, also said the rescue operations were still ongoing and could not yet confirm any casualties from the incident.
