We Will Keep Ensuring Access To Information, Press Freedom, Says Kano Information Commissioner

…As He Bags Award Of Excellence

Kano state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba has promised to keep ensuring press freedom and unhindered access to Information in the state.

Garba, who was rwo-time President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration has continued to not only ensuring freedom of information, but also create enabling environment for journalists to operate in the state.

He also described employee awards as one of the best way to encourage them to be more committed and dedicated for effective and efficient service delivery.

The Commissioner stated this during an End of the Year Award Night organized by the management of Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) to recognize and reward their hardworking staff.

According to him, awarding staff would motivate and boost the morale of those awarded, as well as inspire and encourage others to work much harder.

Garba urged all agencies under the supervision of the ministry to initiate similar programmes of rewarding staff for enhanced performances to achieve the desired goals.

The commissioner added that government provided working equipment to state government media organizations as well as prompt payment of their monthly salaries.

Garba commended the Managing Director and the entire staff of ARTV for initiating the awards event and promised continued support to the television station for effective service delivery.

In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion Alhaji Garba Bello Kankarofi, former director general and Chief Executive, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, also appreciated the effort of the management of ARTV for organizing the awards night to recognize, acknowledge and celebrate deserving staff for their resilience, hardworking and dedication to duty.

In her welcome address, the Managing Director, ARTV, Hajiya Sa’a Ibrahim said she initiated the staff awards event four years ago to celebrate staff of the corporation who exhibited exceptional commitment and dedication to service.

She said the different categories of awardees were drawn from various departments of the station and with different grade levels who were carefully and genuinely selected through credible process, with inputs from all the departments to come up with the list of officers that were awarded.

She commended the State government and the ministry of Information for their continued support to the television station.

The Commissioner of Information Malam Muhammad Garba was presented with the award of excellence for his contribution to the development of ARTV.

Among the diginitaries who were presented with the awards included Kano State NUJ chairman, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim; Chairman correspondents chapel, Ibrahim Garba and ARTV partners, KASCO, Azman, among others.

The recipient of the awards from the staff of ARTV are Director Programmes, Yusha’u Hamza Kafin Chiri;
Abdullahi Hassan, a reporter; Abdullahi Idris Tijjani, Engineering; Abdullahi Hassan; a messenger,
Mudassir Lawan; a Commercial Officer, and Mustapha Abdullahi Mada, an Editor.

Among the important dignitaries that attended the occasion were Alhaji Sani Bashir, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and entire Directors of the Ministry; former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Alhaji Garba Musa; former Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Rimi Television, Faruk Umar Usman; Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, National Council member, NIPR and senior lecturer at Mass Communications Department Bayero University, Kano, Alhaji Bello Mahmood and representative of Managing Director, Triumph Publishing Company, Alhaji Usaini Taiwo Yusif
