FCTA sets deadline for intersections traffic light installation

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given assurance that the ongoing traffic light installations at over 100 intersections will be completed before the end of 2022.

The mandate secretary, FCT transportation secretariat, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, gave the assurance while briefing journalists on the activities of the secretariat in the last 11 months, recently.

He said the department of traffic management had embarked on massive rehabilitation/reactivation of traffic light installations at the 87 intersections in the city to ease free flow of traffic.

Candido explained that the project which is in progress is aimed at making all  the traffic light functional before the year runs out.

The Secretary, said currently traffic light installations at over 90 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are working well.

“FCT transportation secretariat through the department of Traffic Management, embark on massive rehabilitation/ reactivation of traffic light installations at the 87 intersections in the city.

“The project is  still ongoing and the target is to get the traffic light installations at over 100 intersections functional before the  year runs out”

On the achievements and challenges, he said, during the year under review,  the secretariat awarded a contract for the setting up of a control centre with the sole purpose of integrating all the signalized intersections.

He said: “The control centre will help in monitoring the traffic light installations real – time for easy operation and maintenance. Work is still ongoing at the control centre which is domiciled in the secretariat”.

Candido listed funding, office accommodation and staff motivation/welfare as major challenges confronting the secretariat.
