Police Say 61 Political Thugs Arrested, Illicit Drugs Seized, Dangerous Weapons Recovered In Kano

A Statement signed by Kano State Police Command Spokesman, Superintendent of Police, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mamman Dauda, indicated that: Thirty-Three knives, eight cutlasses, four Scissors, one parcel and 117 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, three bottles of Suck and Die, 500 pieces of suspected Exol Tablets and bunch of charms were recovered from 61 political thugs arrested in Kano.

According to the Statement: “In line with the directives of the Inspector–General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR on ensuring peaceful election processes, and the Command’s efforts to rid Kano State of all forms of crimes and criminality, especially the menace of Political Thuggery (Daba) during political campaigns, clearance operations conducted during a political activity at Sani Abacha Stadium Kano on 04/01/2023 led to the arrest of Sixty-One (61) suspected thugs.

“Thirty-Three knives, eight cutlasses, four Scissors, one parcel and 117 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, three bottles of Suck and Die, 500 pieces of suspected Exol Tablets and bunch of charms were recovered from them.

“All suspects will be charged to court for prosecution.

“Prior to these clearance operations, Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting and Peace Summit involving all critical Stakeholders were held at the Command’s level, and election stakeholders meetings were also held at Area Commands and Divisional Police Offices level.

“All those in the meeting including political party leaders and candidates promise to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies in the State for a safer and more secure election process.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mamman Dauda, psc(+) appreciates the good people of the State, other Security Agencies, the Media, Vigilante Groups, and our Community Policing Stakeholders for their prayers, support, encouragement and cooperation.

“Currently, with a low crime rate, and a serene and peaceful atmosphere in the State, the Command will continue to remain steadfast in safeguarding life and property in the State.”
