Enugu records massive turn out in Presidential, National Assembly Elections.

Irrespective of the ugly incidents of killings and attacks recorded towards the end of it’s campaigns,the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections held nation wide on Saturday,February 25.was very peaceful in Enugu state ,with massive turn out of voters across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Except for the contest for Enugu East senatorial district. which INEC postponed to March 11,to enable Labour Party replace it,s candidate, late Barr Oyibo Chukwu, who was among those killed by yet to be identified gun men on Wednesday, February 22, every other position was keenly contested through the state,by the candidates of the various parties who scaled through their respective party primaries, in compliance with the electoral act and INEC guidelines.

Checks revealed that even though INEC offitials arrived a bit late at some polling units in Enugu metropolis, the electorates waited patiently to exercise their franchise to the extent that the exercise lasted up to 5pm in some polling units such as Tipper Park,Abakpa ward and New Haven primary school, Upper Chime, Enugu.

In Enugu North senatorial district, the peaceful disposition of the electorates to the electoral process was also obtained.

The number one citizen of the state, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuari exercised his own franchise at Amube polling unit, Ohom Orba, in Udenu councial area.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the Enugu state governorship election, Dr Peter Mbah, was observed to have voted in his ward at Amaguzo village square, Owoh community, in Nkanu East council area of the state.

At Edenta ward in Edeoballa community,Nsukka council area, Some of the electorates interviewed expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise in their domain.

Reports gathered from some communities in Enugu West senatorial district attests that the exercise was peaceful and also witnessed large turn out voters.

However complaint of late arrival of INEC officials, delaying commencement of the process was a common phenomenom. It was on this premise that INEC listed Enugu state among those where election continued on Sunday, February 26.
