ACCI To Take Advantage of FG’s Intervention Funds for Methanol Fuel For National Dev’t

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) is set to buy into the Federal Government intervention funds for Methanol Fuel for national development.

The Chamber made this decision at an organised workshop by the Department of Environmental Sciences and Technology of the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI). The workshop was aimed to engage with the business community on the conduct of feasibility studies for the nationwide adoption of Methanol Fuel Technology and Diffusion with the theme, “Enhancing Business Opportunity for Methanol Driven Economy.”

The Minister FMSTI, Dr (Senator) Adeleke Olorunnibe Mamora who led his delegation to ACCI on Friday for the workshop announced that the Federal Government is taking significant steps towards providing intervention funds to advance the development of methanol fuel technology.

He stated that the initiative aligns with President Buhari’s agenda and his recent presidential order to create 100 million jobs within a decade adding that the utilisation of methanol’s extensive value chain for industrialisation plays a pivotal role in achieving this ambitious goal.

His host, the President of ACCI, Dr. Al-Mujtaba Abubakar appreciated the minister for bringing such initiative to members of the Chamber whilst lauding the Nigerian government effort in intensifying for its production as an alternative source of energy in the country.

“It is a known fact that due to the benefits embedded in methanol, the huge deposits of natural gas will be useful to the nation leading to job creation, technology development and domestication, electricity generation, clean household energy services, chemical industry value chain, and reduction in pulmonary diseases among women and children, efficient transportation services, stoppage of gas flaring amongst others.”

It could be recalled that, the Policy Advocacy Centre of ACCI in late 2021 wrote a letter of request for participation and collaboration for the implementation of methanol project to the Ministry with a focus for the Ministry to make presentation of the Methanol project to members of ACCI who are potential investors and users. However, this has become a reality and a recent development.

At the roundtable resolutions, appeal, deliberations and intervention were made in order to address any future hitches that might want to become a mirage to the success of the project.

Present at the workshop were; the 1st Deputy President of ACCI, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, the Director General, Victoria Akai, ACCI General Counsel, Aisha Ado Abdullahi, Executive Director National Policy Advocacy Centre of ACCI, Mr Chidiebere Onwumere, Chairman ACCI Young CEO Club, Fife Banks, and members of ACCI Energy Trade Group.
