Community sends SOS to Gov Soludo over deplorable condition of road

From Ifeoma Ejiofor, Awka

The people of Ayamelum and parts of Anambra East LGA have sent a Safe Our Souls(SOS) to Gov Charles Soludo to help work on deplorable roads in the area.

The spokes person for the affected communities, Chief Ben Onuekwe stated that the bad condition of the roads have made it practically impossible for the people in the affected communities relate with other towns in the state.

Chief Onuekwe who is also the Coordinator of Society for Sustainable Development (SSD) for Ayamelum noted that the former governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi in his bid to open up the state and connect every nooks and crannies together, open up Igbariam- Achalla – Nnado Road to join Otuocha – Anaku Express Road during his administration.

He said that the road made it easier for Ayamelum people to get to Awka within one hour and also made movement of their farm products to Awka, Onitsha and other parts of the state very easy.

Chief Onuekwe pointed out that due to lack of maintenance, the road has been cut off after Achalla Roundabout noting that three  major bad spots after Achalla to Igbariam-town has made it impossible for the people to move their farm produce out and into the mentioned areas as at moment.

He explained further “To compound the problem, the only road linking Ayamelum to the rest of the State is Otuocha- Anaku- Omor Express Way to Adani but the road is impassable from Aguleri Junction to Nnado Junction before Ezu Anaku, hence our people can no longer move their farm produce moved to any other part of the state.

“We therefore appeal to the Hon. Commissioner for Works and His Excellence Prof Chukwuma Soludo to as matter of urgency come to our aids by putting up palliative measures to open up the only road that connect Ayamelum to the rest of the world for the free movement of our people and their farm produce.”
