Taraba educationist faults free education policy, calls for war on corruption

From Dominic Akpensuen, Jalingo

The Provost of Peacock College of Education, Jalingo, Mr. Bernard Tumi
Tata, has appealed to the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to provide all the necessary machineries to eradicate corruption and establish monitoring team in the State for the free educational policy to see the light of the day.

Tata made the call in Jalingo when interacting with journalists on the college campus.

He said the Inspectorate of Education Sector and Monitoring team from the zonal and lower levels must be functional and efficient in order to ensure the success of policy.

Tata disclosed that, lack of monitoring teachers and students result to corruption in school system, examination malpractice among the students and low standard of education.

The former director of educational planning in Universal Basic Education (UBE) stressed that, the reason behind fallen standard of education is poor monitoring system, lack of monitoring allowances and inadequate facilities for monitoring team.

“If free education in Taraba State is not monitored, this policy may remain just in name”, Tata said.
