The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has stopped variation of contracts by contractors handling projects for the administration.
He gave the warning at the flagg-off of the phase 1 of rehabilitation/resurfacing of 135 existing roads and remedial works on bridges in various Districts of the FCT, yesterday.
The minister, who said the rehabilitation will be completed in six months, asked contractors not to expect any variation in the contract sum, warning the permanent secretary FCTA, Olusade Adesola and engineering department not to bring any variation of contract paper to him.
He stated that all aspects of the project have been captured and therefore there was no room for any variation in the contract.
The minister told the contractors to ensure that the project is completed within the timeframe, adding that money has been made available for payment for the job.
The former Rivers state governor said the project was the first phase of the numerous projects to be executed by the administration, adding that more of such projects are in the pipeline.
Wike also disclosed that he is personally involved in rehabilitation of roads and other projects in the nation’s capital, as part of the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he said meant well for Nigerians.
He said: “President Bola Tinubu asked us to remind Abuja residents of his renewed hope, this means that the FCT is working, flagging off of the roads is an indication that the president’s renewed hope agenda is not only by talking but action.
“Today’s flagg off is the phases 1 of the roads rehabilitation, phase 2 of the rehabilitation will take place in the next two weeks. It is all about road infrastructure, so be patience, we are taking it one after the other.
While commending the royal fathers in the FCT, the minister called for their support and collaboration to enable the administration succeed.
Speaking earlier, the FCT minister of state, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, noted that the new administration has achieved alot in the last three weeks of coming into office.
Mahmoud said in the last three weeks, the issues of streetlights and sanitation have been attended.
She also called for the support and collaboration from FCT residents to enable the administration achieve more results.
One of the contractors who spoke on behalf of others, Chief Executive Officer ZBMC Limited, Obada Zabadne, said the contractors would not disappoint FCT minister and the administration in carrying out the projects.
“We have acknowledge the trust and faith given to us by the FCT Administration. We assure them and the public of our commitment to achieve beyond their expectations and within the agreed time”
