Taraba: Religious leaders, stakeholders urge Kefas to prioritize security, IDPs’ return

The Catholic Bishop of Wukari Diocese, Most Rev.Dr. Mark Maigida Nzukwein and stakeholders from Takun LGA, Ussa, LGA and Yangtu in Taraba State have called on   Dr. Agbu Kefas, the governor of Taraba State to prioritize security of life and properties in the state to end the incessant crisis in the Southern Taraba and expedite action for the return of all the internal displaced persons to  their homes.

The Catholic priest made this called in a press statement release to National Accord after a joint peace meeting of stakeholders from the worried communities held in Wukari,  Taraba State.

The statement explain that those communities affected during the crisis were Ibi, Kurmi, Donga, Takun, Ussa, Wukari, as well as Yantu special development area.

However, the forum resolved that the mind set and  attitutional change of the people to coexist peacefully with one another and shun the negative attitude of hetrad most be encourage, both individually, in families, academic environment, worship centers, offices and traditional institutions. 

The statement which was written in parts appeal to the media to be vangard of peace building, by using their medium as channel of communication in preaching peace and unity among neighbours, encourage development instead of hetrad and violence. 

The statement explain that media practitioners should design programmes and talk show in various languages in the affected areas to  promote love and unity,  disconnect from unbiased journalism, but be objective and truthful in their reportage over the happening within some various communities in Taraba State. 

The group reiterated that the peace accord negotiation shall continue to engage critical stakeholders  to proffer a lasting solution in ensuring peace and harmony among the people.

The forum appeal to Taraba  State government to continue to sustain   the peace building process in border States, such as  Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau States respectively.
