Niger State plan 50,000 clean cook stoves for rural women

To ensure access of the rural women to clean cooking, the Niger State government plan to procure 50,000 clean cook stoves.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Mr Yakubu Kolo disclosed this at the 2023 Nigeria Clean Cooking Forum in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the procurement of the clean cook stoves is with the support of a World Bank programme.

The two-day Forum with the theme: “Clean Cooking Energy for All in Nigeria- Advancing Public Private Partnership” brought together key policymakers, investors, private sector leaders, research institutions, civil society stakeholders and international partners to support an enabling environment to expand access to clean cooking, strengthen supply and enhance demand.

The commissioner said the government will plant over 19 million trees in two years in line with Gov. Umaru Bago’s green economy initiatives

He disclosed that it has concluded arrangement to host its first subnational Green Economy Summit in October 2023 where about five hundred foreign investors will participate.

Kolo lauded the governor for his determination to make the environment healthy for residents of the state.

“We want to commend the Governor of Niger State for giving very serious attention to the environment sector. The governor is determined to ensure we have an environment that is peaceful and healthy for the people of the state.”
