By Hassan Zaggi

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has kicked against the figures of people who have been allegedly killed and kidnapped in the capital city being brandished in a section of the media as totally outrageous and misleading.

The command expressed concern that such misleading figures of alleged kidnapped victims could cause panic among the residents of the city.

A statement by the Command Spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, noted that the Command was fully aware of the news making the rounds about abducted and kidnapped persons in the communities of the FCT.

The Command, according to the statement,  can confirm that there were reported cases of abduction/kidnapping within the Territory which heralded  what she described as “swift response from the Police who successfully rescued and reunited some of the abductees back with their family members.

“Equally the Command has arrested 11 kidnappers in the last one month, investigation is on going, some of the arrested kidnappers are assisting  police to effect the arrests of fleeing members.”

The statement quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna G. Garba, as reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property of all residents of the FCT.

He equally advised those “circulating misleading information to create the impression that there is a sense of insecurity in FCT are not helping the issue.

“As Nigerians, you have an obligation to partner with the Police and other security agencies to make the city safer instead of creating trepidation in the minds of the people. FCT remain the safest place in the country.”

The CP, therefore, advised residents of the FCT to volunteer information to the Police when the need arises, urging members of the  public to promptly report distress calls and complaints through 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
