Man flees community over death threat by herdsmen

By Nkem Chidi

As the skirmishes between herdsmen and farmers continues to fester, the casualty figures continues to increase and in some cases, the military are drawn into the matter with conflicting reports.
The Authority gathered that a young man, Onwuka Keith Honour has fled his community after a bloody clash which occurred in June 2021 in Ohafia between his community and the herdsmen over grazing.

The clash between Fulani herdsmen and the land owners led to the intervention of soldiers and led to bloodletting where able bodied men fled the community for fear of being killed. The Authority further gathered that several months after the clash, most young men from the community are being haunted.

According to Onwuka, “It happened in Ohafia my LGA when some Fulani herds men who used to harass farmers and spoil their farms were cautioned by my community and they immediately went to the Amy barracks in Ohafia and brought their soldier brothers to attack the community in what I call Soldier/ Herdsman versus my community.

‘’I was a victim because they started pursuing and killing all the young men one after the other. I had to flee to Port Harcourt for my life and they are still trailing me.

Because of this, me and my family are now on the run. Many people were killed by the herdsmen and the army as they were trailing people and killing them both openly and in the secret. I’m seeking for help wherever I can get it,” he requested.
