The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has constituted a 77-member Election Management Council to coordinate its final campaign activities and election strategy ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
The party said the council, made up of prominent political figures, former governors, serving and former lawmakers, technocrats and party leaders, that “will lead preparations through to the final campaign rally on Monday, 10 August, in Osogbo”.
A statement issued on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the council would be chaired by former Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke.
Former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha; and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Kabiru Nadama (rtd), will serve as co-chairmen.
Among members of the council are Senator Ireti Kingibe, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, Senator Abdul Ningi, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, Senator Aliyu Turaki, former Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu, Lauretta Onochie, former Rivers State governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Nigerian Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan, Niyi Adams, Paul Hanson, Offiong Edet Anthony and several other political leaders from across the country.
Also on the council are Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, Dr. Mani Ibrahim Ahmed, Gen. Kabiru Nadama (rtd), Brigadier Tukur Gusau, Dr. Mikailu Barau, Comrade Nkemakolam Ukandu, Hon. Idris Kumo, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, Tajudeen Bakare and Otunba Emmanuel Famojuro.
The party said the composition of the council reflects its determination to mobilise experienced political leaders and strategists to coordinate its activities in the final days leading to the governorship election.
According to the statement, the council will drive the party’s preparations, supervise campaign activities and coordinate election-day operations as the ADC seeks victory at the polls on August 15.
Political campaigns for the election are expected to end on Thursday in line with the electoral timetable, with parties making final efforts to woo voters before Saturday’s governorship poll.
