The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency of Adamawa State, Hon. Salihu Mohammed Abba Girei, has received a ten years ban from active politics and public service for forging his primary school certificate.

Girei was sacked by an Abuja Appeal Court judgment which ruled in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Hon Abubakar Babazango (Abaza).

Meanwhile, the APC has described it as a welcome development that will strengthen democracy in the country.

The judgment which was delivered by a three-man team of judges said Girei was not supposed to hold any public office because of his shameful show of leadership irresponsibility to the nation.

Justice Moore Asemoi A. Adumei from Bayelsa who read the judgment ruled that the sum of five million naira be paid to Hon Babazango the current member representing the area as damages by Girei for making him incur losses and go through psychological stress.

Justice Moore further ruled that Girei will refund all Salaries , entitlements, benefits and all legislative utilities collected for the period he was serving as an illegal House of Representatives member.

Justice Moore alongside Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode (Osun State) and Justice Rilwan Maiwada Abdullahi (Nassarawa) were of the view that the likes of Girei are a disappointment to the nation and they should not be allowed to hold any public office.
