Respect culture, traditions of host communities -DG NYSC advises corps members

The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed has advised corps members to respect culture, traditions and values of their host communities.
The DG made this known during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream II orientation course on Thursday at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Kubwa, Abuja.
Brigadier General Ahmed said, “Be law abiding, disciplined and respect the views, values, traditions and culture of your host communities, be assured that the people of the FCT are accommodating, entertaining and will associate with you peaceful.
“I also encourage Corps members to accept their postings in good faith and settle down to contribute to the growth and development. Do not reject your post, you might be indirectly rejecting your destiny because you may not know what you will meet in your place of primary assignment.”
Similarly, the Minister of state, Federal CapitalTerritory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud admonished corps members to be peaceful and law abiding as they step into the various communities of the FCT for their primary assignment.
According to the Minister who was represented by the Mandate Secretary, Social Development Secretariat and Chairman NYSC FCT Governing Board, Hon. Ibrahim Aminu said ” Respect for their culture will make the people to love, accept and support you throughout your service year to make meaningful impact as has already been demonstrated by predecessors.
Meanwhile, the FCT NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Winifred Shokpeka emphasized that the welfare of corps members is of utmost important to the scheme. She advised corps employers to ensure judicious utilization of all corps members posted to them.
Shokpeka said,” corps members are strongly advised to accept their postings in good faith and desist from acts of inducing rejection. As you depart the orientation camp today, I enjoin you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC by shunning acts capable of putting the name of the scheme to disrepute. “
