Erasmus scholarship scheme holds big opportunity for Nigerians – Minister

Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, says Erasmus scholarship scheme has provided great opportunity for Nigerian scholars to deepen their knowledge and compete effectively across the globe.

The Minister, who stated this at the maiden edition of Erasmus+ National Information Day, on Thursday in Abuja, said the scheme, was one of the most popular European Scholarship programmes anyone can hope to be part of.

“It is a multinational exchange programme aimed at:
Promoting International collaboration; Harnessing International talent; Facilitating mobility among borders for exchange of knowledge and research, and Enhancing employability of candidates in various fields, among other benefits, ” the minister said.

The minister commended the landmark initiative of the Erasmus+ EU Ambassadors and Erasmus+ National Focal Points (ENFPs) in organizing the Information Day.

” This sensitization and advocacy programme is a clear testimony of the passion of the European Union to move education to a greater height in our dear country and the sub-Sahara African countries.

” I also commend the Erasmus+ Managers and Praicies for the wonderful support for the success of this programme,” he said.

Speaking further, Sununu said the scholarship scheme is also in line with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Tinubu Administration recognizes that Nigeria’s education system must prepare and equip the citizenry to effectively contribute their quota to national development.

According to the Minister, the Tinubu’s administration is committed to ensuring that the Nigerian university system produce globally competitive graduates with the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies needed to drive the country’s quest for sustainable development and increased national prosperity.
