TCN clarifies on low generation into grid allocation to Discos

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that there has been gradual decrease in available generation into the grid due to gas constraints to the thermal generating companies, which has impacted the quantum of bulk power available on the transmission grid for transmission to the distribution load centers nationwide.

According to Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs at TCN, the Company “is doing everything possible in collaboration with stakeholders in the power sector to ensure that it continues to keep the grid intact inspite of the current low power generated into the system”.

This is as it announced that the Bauchi region of TCN, on January 23rd, took delivery of new 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer at its new 330/132/33kV Bauchi Transmission Substation.

According to her, “consequent upon the current load on the grid, load distributed to the distribution load centres have also reduced, as TCN can only transmit what is generated.

“TCN is committed to ensuring a gradual increase in electricity supply to load centers as gas improves to power available thermal plants”.

Recall that the  Bauchi Transmission Substation  received brand-new 150MVA power transformer last year, and the latest transformer delivery, therefore, brings to two the number of new 150MVA transformers delivered to the substation recently.

On installation, the transformers will add 240MW to the substation’s capacity, increasing bulk power available in the substation for Jos DisCo to offtake for its customers.

“The transformer delivery is among the several transformer capacity expansion projects undertaken to increase bulk power availability in TCN substations nationwide.

“The Bauchi transformer project is a part of the TCN /World Bank expansion projects,” Obi stated.
