Police boss challenges Imo communities over insecurity

Disturbed by cases of abduction, kidnapping, assassination and arson among other criminal vices in communities in Imo State, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aboki Danjuma, has challenged Imo communities to see security as everybody’s business.

He therefore solicited for collaborative partnership with the communities, as a strategic means of tackling the criminal menace.

Danjuma said that until stakeholders, especially community leaders,  give priority attention towards curbing security issues in the state, the desired peace and stability needed to combat the prevalent security challenges may still be elusive.

The Commissioner made the statements when he led a litany of the Command’s management team to interface with chieftains of Ihiagwa, Nekede and Obinze, the host communities of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), among other stakeholders.

Danjuma stated that the meeting became necessary following incessant complaints received regarding kidnapping and other crimes committed within the FUTO environs and in their respective communities.

He also disclosed that the meeting, took place to enable him meet, interact and collectively fashion out possible ways with the stakeholders towards ending security challenges in the areas.

The Police boss urged the stakeholders especially traditional rulers, president of town unions, women and youth leaders, as well as other leaders to always scrutinize inhabitants of their communities, monitor every activity and movement within their areas as well as report suspecting ones to relevant authorities for appropriate action.

Also speaking, some of the stakeholders at the meeting including Dr. George-Smart Obinna Unegbu, HRH Eze Lucky Okoro, Chairman Owerri-West Traditional Rulers and Alhaji Ibrahim Sali, leader of the Hausa Community applauded the CP for the initiative and pledged to support efforts to enhance security of their areas.

Recall that the Command had last week arrested seven suspected kidnappers and discovered four decomposing bodies suspected to be kidnap victims at Okohia Forest which spans across FUTO, Nekede, Ihiagwa, and Obinze communities.
