Plans are on the way for the Federal Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment (FMITI) create Catalytic Unit to accommodate all the the Diaspora matters, according to a press release from the media office of the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).
The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), NIDCOM, Hon Abike Dabiri – Erewa has recently paid a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment (FMITI), Dr Doris Uzoka – Anite recently.
Welcoming her, the Minister promised
to create a full department.to be called, Catalytic Investment
Unit in the Ministry to
accommodate all Diaspora
related matters, just as she commended NIDCOM for partnering with
the private sector-led Nigerian
Diaspora Summit initiative
(NDSI) to organise the Nigerian
Diaspora Investment summit,
which has provided a platform
for Nigerians who want to
invest in the country.
Adding that the Ministry
would synergise with NIDCOM
and NDSI to make the summit
stronger, in-line with the
Ministry’s investment initiatives
and policies, Uzoka – Anite disclosed that she was charged by Mr President to look for inward investment into the
country, saying that the NIDCOM has saved her from starting from scratch.
While promising to build on their platform and work together, she described the Diaspora members as a
great potential for investment
who are passionate about their
country and willing to invest
without too many conditions or
demands.
The Minister however added that the Ministry would support Diaspora investment by creating different investment channels, negotiating long
term investment opportunities,
proposing removal of taxes
on dividends and providing
extra security arrangements on
Diaspora investment and even
work together to push bills to
be sponsored by the National
Assembly.
