Group launches Women in Health Network

In line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls, a group has launched a network- Women in Healthcare Network (WIHCN).

WIHCN, according to the group is dedicated to increasing the contribution of women to the growth and development of the health system in Nigeria.

The formal launch of the group witnessed three panel sessions on leadership, financing and mentorship led by Founding members which comprised of industry leaders with inspiring track records.

Commenting on the turnout of dignitaries and massive support for the initiative, the Founder/Chair, Board of Trustees, Women in Healthcare Network (WIHCN), Dr Modupe Elebute-Odunsi, said: “We knew WIHCN was needed, but I did not anticipate the level of support we received and the number of people that attended today.

“We are inspired to drive this initiative for all the women in healthcare who aspire to maximise their careers and businesses.”

The Founding Members are drawn from women in various sectors of healthcare in the public and private sectors. They include Dr Simisola Alabi, Dr Salma Ibrahim Anas, Mrs Abiola Ayilara, Dr Tomi Coker, Dr Orode Doherty, Mrs Uzoma Ezeoke, Mrs Unoma Grant, Dr Kemi Ibru, Dr Kemi Ogunyemi, Dr Abimbola Ojo Mrs Melanie Okuneye, Mrs Funmi Oridota, Mrs Yemisi Osakwe, Mrs Boroji Osindero, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu and Dr. Amy Traore-Shumbusho.

The Founding members welcomed high-profile guests and speakers, including the representative of the VP, Dr Uju Rochas Anwukah, our keynote speaker, Professor Muhammed Ali Pate, special guests, Dr Jide Idris (former Commissioner for Health in Lagos State), Mrs Toyin Saraki (Founder-President of The Wellbeing Foundation Africa), Mrs Abike Dabiri (Chairman/CEO Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Dr Atinuke Onayiga (Chairman, Lagos State Health Service Commission), Mrs Stella Okoli (CEO and Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceutical ) and several others who graced us with their presence.

WIHCN invites women in healthcare to register to be members of the network. The sole  mission is to connect, inform and inspire.
