Chaos in Abuja market over death of suspect

There was pandemonium at Wuse market in Abuja over the death of a suspect allegedly killed by a police officer attached to Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML), Federal Capital Territory Administration.

An eye witness account confirmed that the killed suspect attempted to escape after being arraigned before a mobile court in the market.

According to the witness, who pleaded for anonymity said the chaotic situation ensued when hoodlums started burning shops, offices and vehicles.

The Spokesperson of Abuja Markets Management Limited, Innocent Amaechina didn’t confirm the cause of the incident, but said he heard that a suspect was shot dead, a situation which angered hoodlums around the scene.

Amaechina however, confirmed that the AMML’s office in the market and some shops were burnt down by the miscreants, while some staff have not been found.

He also disclosed that he has not been able to access the market to determine the extent of damages to the market, as Police ĥad condoned the place, to allow fire fighters take control of the situation.
