Dekina chairman initiate drinage evacuation to combat erosion threat on Anyigba Iyale road

In a bid to safeguard the community from the reoccurring threat of erosion on the Anyigba-Iyale road, the Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Hon. John Urah Ikani has launched a significant initiative aimed at evacuating drainages in the region and expanding the road to allow free flow of water especially. This proactive move underscores the Chairman’s commitment to environmental preservation and disaster prevention.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the Anyigba axis of the road witnessed the convergence of community leaders, government officials including the SA security, Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency, DLG, Zonal party chairman and concerned citizens, all eager to witness the commencement of this crucial operation.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman emphasized the urgent need to tackle erosion head-on, citing its detrimental effects on infrastructure, livelihoods, and the environment. He said the initiative marks a pivotal moment in the government’s efforts to mitigate the risks posed by erosion.

The evacuation operation will cover key areas prone to erosion along theAnyigba-Iyale road, including other densely populated neighborhoods and critical infrastructure zones within the area.

Hon. Urah who highlighted the importance of community involvement in sustaining the impact of the endeavor, urged residents to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal, and report any drainage blockages promptly.

The Chairman appreciated the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Usman Ododo for providing quality leadership and giving him the mandate to serve the people.
