The Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Ismaila Gusau, has received the prestigious NIPR’s ‘Outstanding Military Spokesperson of the Year award’.
General Gusau, who has a good working relationship with the media received the award at NIPR’s annual summit in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Award was organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations ( NIPR) in collaboration with Image Merchants Promotions Limited (IMPR).
The National Spokespersons Awards 2024 is the highest honours to celebrate outstanding spokespersons who have demonstrated outstanding eloquence, integrity and effectiveness in their roles as spokespersons in corporate communications, politics, media and public affairs amongst others.
Gen. Gusau was among other notable spokespersons honoured at the 2024 edition of the institute’s annual National Spokesperson Summit, with the theme “Change Narratives, Change Society”.
The award is in recognition of the Journalists and Public Relations practitioners contributions to national development in various capacities.
Brigadier Gusau has been exceptional with many caps to his credit, both in the military and other academic pursuits. The senior officer has attended several military and professional courses both at home and abroad.
Born on January 9, 1969, in the city of Gusau, Zamfara State. Brigadier General Gusau was commissioned into the Nigerian Army after his cadetship training at the Nigerian Defence Academy on September 25, 1993.
As part of his career in military information dissemination, he has worked with the Directorate of Army Public Relations (DAPR), among others.
General Gusau attended the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, and bagged a doctorate (PhD) in management.
He has published books and essays; among them is the authored book titled: A Collection of Speeches, a handy reference document to enrich knowledge and deepen understanding of Nigeria’s national defense policy, among others.
Other honours and awards to his gallery are; Force Service Star (FSS), Meritorious Service Star (MSS), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), United Nations (UNMIL) Medal, Nigeria Silver Jubilee Medal, Nigeria Centenary Medal, Operation Zaman Lafiya Medal, Operation Lafiya Dole Medal, River Niger Medal, Fellow Nigerian Army Resource Centre and Member National Institute (mni).
General Gusau is a member of the following reputable professional bodies; Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Harvard Centre for Environmental Research and Education, United States of America, and Leicester Centre of Environmental Protection and Sustainability, United Kingdom.
