Insecurity: Zamfara communities demand removal of L.G chairman

From Salisu Zakaria Maradun, Gusau

Communities in Maradun local government area of Zamfara state have continued to put pressure on the governor of the state to hasten the removal of the sole administrator of the local government, Alhaji Yahaya Giwa who they described as a failure, checks by our correspondent in the state had revealed.

According to checks, the embattled sole administrator, Yahaya Giwa Maradun have since assumption, never done any tangible thing for the people of the area.

The sole administrator, the checks further reports, had also failed in one of the crucial areas of human endeavour, which is security and one of the prioritized sectors of Dauda Lawal’s administration.

Our correspondent also gathered that Yahaya Giwa failed to unite the people of the area and is yet to touch any area positively with a view to bringing solution where necessary.

Those who spoke to The Authority in respect of the current situation in which the people of the area found themselves, particularly insecurity, have expressed their dismay over what they described as “misplacement of priority” by appointing a person like Giwa to administer an area like Maradun. “ I was surprised when I heard over the radio that Giwa was our sole administrator because I knew he lack the capacity, revealed one, Malam Isah Yusufu, one of the aggrieved protesters against the appointment of Giwa as administrator and his subsequent continued stay in office when he did not do anything.

According to Isah, Maradun local government had never witnessed a leader like Giwa from the day it was created in 1989 to date adding that a number of sole administrators have come to work in the town many of who, were not even indigenes but “we enjoyed their services, infact many of them left different legacies during their reign, such as clinic, schools, culverts and so on, which we are not expecting from the present one because as far as we are concerned and going by the number of months he has been in office, I don’t think there is anything worthy of commendation this man can do.

“You cannot imagine that Maradun town which is only eight to nine kilometres away from the main road but cannot be crossed anytime from 5:00pm as it has been taken over by bandits who abduct people innocently while the sole administrator was there. In addition to his failure to contribute his quota towards addressing insecurity which was one of the reasons the sole administrators were appointed by Dauda Lawan’s government, Yahaya Giwa, as far as I am concerned and as far as the entire people of Maradun are concerned, his continued stay in office will only be meaningless to us and that is why we are appealing to governor Dauda to as a matter of fact, effect the removal of this sole administrator”, he concluded.

In his contribution, Alhaji Adamu Gidan Goga who is also one of the aggrieved people among the protesters, stated that governor Dauda had made a great mistake by appointing Giwa as the administrator when the former vice chairman of the local government was around.

Said he, “We enjoyed the leadership of the former vice chairman of this local government, Alhaji Adamu M. Kantu. Although he served as a second in command but the way he handled or exhibited maturity and love as well as understanding among the people will remain indelible in our hearts.

At the time of filing in this report, Maradun town, the headquarters of Maradun local government which is only a ten minutes journey to the main road had become a dead zone now, as nobody could attempt to go out whenever it is 5:00pm for fear of abduction while the local government authorities despite huge amount of money they collect monthly from the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs fold their arms watching their people killed and abducted almost on a daily basis.
