The Bassa Cultural and Development Union (BCDU), Nasarawa State Chapter, has applauded the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, for setting up a high-powered committee for the reconciliation and return of some displaced people of Toto Local Government Area of the State.
A statement signed by the BCDU Chairman, Emmanuel M. Gbaji, commended the governor for appointing the Emir of Lafia and Chairman Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs to serve as the Committee’s chairman.
“We have always believed in dialogue as the best option out of any crisis. The Bassa/Ebira people have, for years, lived together as neighbors and had a lot of things in common.
“Therefore, the crisis in Toto labeled Bassa/ Ebira crisis can only be resolved through dialogue.
“The chairman of the Committee, the Emir of Lafia, His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad, is a very high-profile individual with a known pedigree of delivering on any assignment given to him over the years,” the statemen said.
It would be recalled that in 2022, former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him Chairman of National Merit Award, an assignment he executed excellently and was commended by Nigerians for a job well done.
Therefore, undoubtedly, the group said, “the Bassa community has absolute confidence that the Royal Father will execute this important assignment of reconciliation and dialogue between the Bassa and the Ebira communities to the best of his ability.
“We, therefore, called on the members of the committee and the stakeholders that will be involved in the reconciliation process to give the royal father maximum support to carry out this noble assignment,” the group stressed.
The Bassa Community further commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for what they described as the boldness to set up the committee and the work he is doing to uplift the standard of living of residents of Nasarawa State.
“As stated in our previous press releases, the Union expresses its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims as a result of the recurrence of the Toto crisis.
“Indeed, the Toto crisis is totally worrisome and we believe the Justice Bage’ committee will find a lasting solution of the Bassa and Ebira crisis,” the Bassa Community said.
