Akinlade alleges misconduct in Ogun PDP registration exercise

The deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State during the 2023 general elections, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade has faulted the processes being followed in the registration on new members into the party in Ogun State.

Akinlade, who addressed a press conference on Tuesday, 27 May, said that he had notified the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party about the anomalies playing out in the Ogun State chapter of the party concerning registration of party members and issuance of membership cards.

According to him, “the purported membership registers handed over to some individuals for the
PDP membership registration on Thursday the 23rd of May 2024 are not the authentic registers issued by the NWC of the party,” Akinlade said.

He said further that he had addressed the press conference to, “save our great party in Ogun State from further fragmentation.”

The press conference reads in part: “I have with me a copy of the letter written by the State Chairman to the National Chairman and delivered today the 27th of May 2024.

“This will be the fourth such letter to the NWC of our party on the issue of registration of party members and issuance of membership cards in preparation for the forthcoming party congresses across the nation.”

Akinlade noted that the issue in contention about the registration of new members into the PDP in Ogun State is rooted in the illegality of the time frame given for the exercise.

‘The 3 days allegedly imposed by state Secretary for the Ogun State membership registration (28th -31st of May 2024) is against the 30 days expressly stipulated in the constitution of the party and declared by the NWC for 1st to 31st of May
2024,” he noted.

He also remarked that there is request for a 3-weeks extension of the membership registration exercise, “to enable those residing and working outside their Wards to participate in the process.”
