The House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation of the House’s Legislative Agenda, has called for special focus on Blue, Digital and Green Economies as the country drives towards achieving economic diversification.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Patrick Umoh during a chat with journalists after a successful round-table on the subject matter with stakeholders in the industry, said with the current challenges, it was time the country drastically redirects its focus from oil, to more lucrative options and opportunities.
“The unsustainability and precariousness of Nigeria’s mono-cultural oil-dependent economy cannot be over-emphasised, particularly in the light of current economic challenges precipitated by the dynamics of the international oil market and the accelerating global transition to a Net-Zero carbon/non-fossil economy.
“The task of salvaging Nigeria’s Economy and resetting it on the path of sustainable growth and development after several years of failure to do the needful is a most critical challenge which the present Administration is avowedly committed to addressing in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR and the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House of Representatives, particularly Agenda No. 4.
“With an enormous endowment of Green, Blue and Digital resources, Nigeria is potentially positioned to serve as the Green, Blue and Digital Hubs of Africa”, the lawmaker stated.
According to him, the Stakeholders engagement was neccesitated to chart the way forward in ensuring the state of Nigeria’s economy is improved upon through addressing inflation, unemployment rate, food and social insecurity and other indicators of an economy in distress.
The event had a theme; The Roundtable on Economic Diversification: from Agenda to Action through the Unlocking of New Vistas of Opportunities in the Green, Blue and Digital Economy.
