In what looks like making real their promise, a coalition of political stakeholders in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers state, has purchased Form for the contest of local government chairmanship position for the Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Assembly Forum (ASAF), Ambassador Dagogo Fubara.
Recall that Fubara has been asked by stakeholders in his Bonny Local government area to throw his cap into the ring for the chairmanship position of the local government area.
To demonstrate their seriousness, a coalition of political stakeholders trooped out to purchase the form on his behalf to contest the October 5 local government area election in Rivers State.
Since the window on local government elections opened in Rivers state, Bonny LG stakeholders across various political parties have called on the ASAF DG to come on a rescue mission, insisting that they cannot allow his face-saving blueprints for the development of the local council to waste.
They insisted that Ambassador Fubara, who had run for the councilorship seat in the local government area on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011, as well as the Bonny State Assembly seat on the platform of the APC in 2019, has remained the best candidate among the many that have indicated interest in the seat.
The coalition included representatives of supporters from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Action People’s Party (APP), the Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and some members of the Simplified Movement in the council.
Leading the group to purchase the form at the Bonny Local Government Area secretariat of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) were some Bonny leaders of thought, including Hon. Dagogo Allison, Hon. Sodienye Hart, and Hon. Gift T. Furo Hart.
Others included Hon. Ipatima Pollyn, Comrade George Brown, as well as other prominent Bonny leaders who led supporters to purchase the form.
It is note worthy that Ambassador Fubara, after several consultations amid calls by the stakeholders, recently declared to contest the Bonny Local Government Area election on the platform of the NNPP.
The stakeholders, who expressed their joy that the ASAF DG has heeded their call to contest in the election, assured that they will remain united irrespective of their political affiliations to deliver him for the good of the council.
“We have taken a cursory study of all the aspirants in this election. For us, we are not talking about our political parties here. As you can see, there are people from APC, PDP, NNPP, SDP, YPP, LP, and many other political parties in our midst. Our mission is to see that Bonny Local Government Area is given a befitting facelift that it deserves, using the opportunity of the upcoming election.
“Honestly, Bonny has lagged behind with no infrastructure or development despite the numerous endowments. Now is the time to change from that past state, and we have studied all and come to the decision that the game changer is Ambassador Fubara.
“We chose him in the interest of Bonny people, and we will join hands irrespective of political affiliations and comb all the crannies of the LG to deliver him in the interest of our dear citizens and residents of Bonny Local Government Area,” the coalition leader stated.
