UNICEF tasks Journalists on NLP.

The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) has tasked Nigerian Journalists to facilitate uptake of the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) through adequate reportage that would endear the process to Nigerians.

UNICEF in partnership with the Federal ministry of education introduced the Nigeria Learning Passport(NLP) in the country last year with expectations of enhancing digital learning processes online, mobile and offline through microsoft.

UNICEF extended it’s hand of fellowship to Nigerian Journalists in fast tracking NLP in the country at a one day Zonal Dialogue for a select group of Media Executives from Enugu, Benue and Cross River states, held at Fildema Hotel. Enugu, recently.

The Communication. Officer UNICEF, Enugu Field Office, Dr Ijeoma Onuoha-Ogwe urged Media practitioners to initiate programmes and write ups that would make more Nigerians imbibe NLP.

She stated, “Journalists are to prioritize and set agenda for accelerated NLP uptake (increase the number of users already using the platform) on online, mobile, and offline digital learning platform powered by Microsoft’s in the targeted three states; unify with Government and persons in positions to take favourable actions for children development as well as holding them accountable.

She stated further.“Media (should also be) committed to pitching the NLP prospects and agenda, using available media channels to increase demand for NLP, on online, mobile and offline digital learning platforms powered by Microsoft to bridge the digital learning divide in rural settings in Nigeria.”.

She tasked the Media to come up with action that would help to achieve targeted enrollments for NLP uptake in the three states of Enugu, Benue and Cross River between January and November 2023.

She described NLP as a pattern of education that enhances community and parental engagement, digital and remote learning, partnerships, private and public, integrated safe school services,etc.

Dr Ijeoma Ogwu revealed that NLP is also vital for child education, parents and teachers’ education, technical and vocational education and training, youths and adolescent skills, primary and secondary school education.

The Education Specialist, UNICEF Field Office, Enugu, Dr Agatha Nzeribe said dialogue will also identify media channels in the three states of Enugu, Benue and Cross Rivers and involve them on strategies to advance operational mode and NLP in the country,most especially among the youths who are eager to advance their studies.
