The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has reaffirmed its commitment to providing ongoing support to educational institutions within the Nigerian military.
TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, made this pledge during a visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, accompanied by senior officials of the Fund.
Echono emphasized the military’s crucial role in safeguarding educational institutions across Nigeria, particularly in regions affected by conflict and insecurity.
He commended the Armed Forces under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff for their relentless efforts in maintaining national security and ensuring the safety of schools.
“The military has been instrumental in creating a secure environment for education, even in the most challenging circumstances,” Echono remarked. “We deeply appreciate the sacrifices made to keep our educational institutions safe from militant attacks and kidnappings, which have notably decreased in recent times.”
Echono also highlighted the potential for collaboration in research and development, particularly in areas related to national security and defense. He expressed TETFund’s continued dedication to supporting key military educational institutions such as the Nigerian Defence Academy and Army University, Biu.
In response, General Christopher Musa assured that the Armed Forces would maintain their strong commitment to supporting educational initiatives in Nigeria. He called for a closer partnership between the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) and TETFund to enhance local arms production, reduce dependence on foreign imports, and boost job creation.
General Musa expressed gratitude for TETFund’s contributions, noting that the Fund’s support has significantly improved the capabilities of military educational institutions.
“Our commitment to securing schools is unwavering,” General Musa stated. “Education is crucial to the nation’s progress, and the Armed Forces will continue to ensure that schools remain safe havens for learning.”
