The outgoing Director-General of the National Biosafety Management Agency and Chairman, Rufus Ebegba Centre for Leadership And Sustainable Development; Olorogun (Dr) Rufus Ebegba KSJ, has urged workers to place selflessness as a priority of service.

A statement on Monday from Rufus Ebegba Media Office said Dr Ebegba made the call in his message to commemorate the 2023 Workers Day Celebrations.

He also appreciated Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the opportunity to serve.

Ebegba, recently celebrated by the Management and staff of the National Biosafety Management Agency for 8 years of sincere and effective leadership, stated that” Today, May 1st 2023, I joyfully celebrate all who are engaged legally in any venture that serves humanity positively, especially Deltans and Nigerians who are engaged in either the Public service or Private establishments across the world”.

“Today is a day where we celebrate ourselves for the roles we all play towards the survival and profitable existence of various organizations, whether we work in government offices, hospitals, banks, schools, nonprofits, household maintenance and other positive engagements.

“As Workers, we are the livewire, present and future of society and thus, I use this opportunity to urge that we become more and more selfless in dispensing our duties”.

Meanwhile, Dr Ebegba has expressed his appreciation to the management and staff of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), across the country for working with him to establish the Agency and prepare the foundation on which the Nigerian Biosafety and Biosecurity architecture operates and flourishes.

“He made this in reaction to the recently organised Send-Off Ceremony organised by the Agency, to commemorate the end of his tenure as 2-time Director-General.

He said “I want to specially thank and appreciate The NBMA and its staff for the colourful ceremony to mark the end of my tenure as Director-General.

“When we started this journey 8 years ago, it was filled with so much uncertainty and unpredictability. However through the cooperation of everyone, we have made something out of nothing.

“Also, I appreciate God Almighty and thank sister and affiliated Agencies, organizations and individuals who have over the past 8 years stood with us in the NBMA.

“It has been an honor to serve and I thank Presidents Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, and Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) GCFR, respectively for the confidence reposed in me and for the opportunity to serve Nigeria and make positive impact.

“Also, I thank foreign governments, Development Partners, national, international and multinational organizations, rights/interest groups, social organizations and indeed Nigerians across board.

“I am particularly grateful for the confidence and moral support received especially during the GMOs controversy which threatened to derail the NBMA of its mandate.

“May we continue to succeed and enjoy cordial relationships as we continue to partner beyond governmental parameters,” the statement added.
